We arrived to the cabin at dusk, nearly hitting several deer along our driving route (take those deer signs seriously). We pulled up to our cabin on the shore. In the dark we fumbled for light switches and door frames. One by one we uncovered the most deliciously cozy living spaces. The cabin is far better than we predicted. HDTV (YES!). A huge fireplace. Two bedrooms. One bathroom. A lovely kitchen. All of the things we could possibly need... Except internet.
The internet, we found, was not working. We called our care taker. She had no idea how to fix it, except to say that the switch for it was in the "dungeon-like basement." Great.
Begin adventure #1.
Justin and I, armed with flashlights and weapons, opened the trapdoor to the basement (that was indeed dungeon-like), and crept down the stairs. It was hilarious. Justin was freaked. I was laughing. We did our best, to no avail.
That night we watched Star Trek the movie. Yum. We cooked a pizza (eh).
The next day I sat around and watched television. Justin was productive and wrote and recorded. That night we watched several episodes of Twin Peaks (a creepy decision if you are staying in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere).
Adventure #2? Finding out we had a roommate. The little field mouse, we dutifully named Walter, was found scurrying around our little cabin in the middle of the night. At one point we turned on the kitchen light, and Walter was found on the counter top--having shred the small pouch of hot chocolate that I had accidentally left out. He was eating the hot chocolate like nobody's business whilst staring at us bravely/nervously. HE IS SO CUTE. We couldn't help but love him, and we instantly knew we could not kill the poor bugger. We figured it was torture enough for him to be buzzed out of his mind on chocolate for the night.
Today we are sitting at a local coffee shop checking our internet stuff. Hopefully our real internet will be up soon, as we have no connection to the outside world (phone reception is not happening).
I am loving it here. I feel like an adult human. Like a real boy! Er... you know what I mean.
I will try to post more later. just know that we are alive, and we are well.

encore, encore.
three weekends ago:
finally a quality local show (in my humble opinion). at least one that brings up good old memories of old show-going times. white light riot played at the fineline, and all of us girls went. i had several people shocked to see me, wondering where i have been this whole time. it made me a little sad to have gotten so distanced from the minneapolis "scene," but also happy that most of me has moved on to something else. good times, regardless. i over judged my capabilities and became highly obnoxious to everyone around me. i apologize. in any event, we stood in the front and danced and sang our hearts out. that band plays the only shows i feel totally comfortable being crazy at. i don't care who judges me there. was good. ugly mug after? not so good. what was i thinking?
two weekends ago:
another good show! the alarmists and this world fair played at the varsity theater. heather and i were the first ones in the front for the show, and of course we sang, sang, sang. many people we knew were there, including gabe (we agreed we were going to start recording weekly photobooth lip-syncs. watch for those one day), mike minehart, donovan, zack, ali, all of us girls, etc... was a great time. caught up with kalgren for a bit. watched laura get funny. eventually wandered over to a diner where we ate like queens. yum.
this weekend:
lindsey was in town from florida, so all of our friend group got together for the first time in 2 1/2 years. we all became friends in middle school and continued it through high school. we also had a nice little singing group called "angels in disguise." ha. we are completely different personalities, but we all get along so well (most of the time). me, heather, tiffany, megan, and lindsey met at olive garden, and we stayed there laughing for two hours. then we went to visit with little whit whit, who is getting to be SO OLD! he can pull himself up and everything. what a gorgeous little kidlet. later that night we decided to make it over to majors (a bar we would never go to in normal circumstances, but since we were reliving the high school dream, we undertook the mission). it was interesting, but pretty fun. lydia came out as well. and of course my little sister and all of her friends were there.
this coming weekend:
christmas is quickly approaching! for the first time i have all of my presents purchased well before the holidays, so it is all less stressful. i generally do not enjoy christmas, at least everything leading up to it. christmas eve i will be going to justin's family's house. christmas morning i am with my family, and then in the afternoon i am bringing justin to my mother's side at my grandpa's house. i am so very excited!
then? the day after christmas i leave for 9 days on vacation with justin to the north shore. EEE!!! we are going to be creative and write. it is all i can think about. it cannot come sooner!!!
other highlights:
the christmas carol at the guthrie with the extended family on my mother's side. we have gone for something like 30 years in a row. this year they changed it a lot. i was not impressed. less singing, rushed performance, unbelievable characters, but it was still fun to partake in the experience with the family.
watching the darjeeling limited about 50 times. i think i have found my new favorite movie. i am so excited about it! i absolutely adore all of the characters and the quirky story line. i especially loved the short film at the beginning. p.s. i am newly in love with jason schwartzman.
not getting much sleep trying to hang out with justin while he was in town practicing for the chicago shows, and trying to get to work at 6:15AM every morning. yikes. worth it, however.
watching beth's video stream of all of the chicago mcs shows from my bed, since i cannot be there. i have made new friends and have been obnoxious with the old ones on the chat stream. yes! it makes it a lot better to pretend i am there, only a connection apart. here is the video from the second night (commit this to memory), if you have a lot of time to kill.
